| Since the 20 th National Congress of CPC,General Secretary Xi Jinping has stressed to promote green development and build a beautiful China.This study takes Tao Te Ching as the research object to build a micro-corpus of appraisal resources through the corpusbased approach from a multi-disciplinary perspective.Specifically,this study explores the representation of appraisal meanings reflected by harmonious writing of the Chinese ecology and features of discourse instances construed by ecosophy from the perspectives of SFL and ecolinguistics,expecting to provide a methodological path for discourse analysis of Chinese classics.In the light of its harmonious connotation for constructing a harmonious society,discourse of Tao Te Ching is the beneficial one.Harmonious discourse analysis,as one of the approaches to ecological discourse analysis,aims to explore the sustainable impact of language on the livings in the ecological relationships,further,to promote harmonious relationship between people,human beings and other species,people and nature,language and nature,etc.Based on the appraisal theory and“one assumption and three principles”,following observation-interpretation-descriptionanalysis-explanation-evaluation,this study analyzes the representation of appraisal meaning constructed by Tao Te Ching and construes the ecological meaning through qualitative and quantitative analysis using Ant Conc,and UAM Corpus tool 3.3x to calculate configuration of appraisal resources and word-clouds to visualize word frequencies.This research intends to answer two questions examining Tao Te Ching as a text product and as a discourse process:(1)What are the configuration features of appraisal resources?(2)What ecological meanings are realized by representation of by appraisal meaning?The main findings are as follows: concerning the configuration features,appraisal resources in human and nation,human and society accounts for more than that of human and nature.Overall,attitude resources(human and nature: 65.1%,human and society:66.1%,human and nation: 61.2%)occupy the largest share followed by graduation and engagement,reflecting resources of engagement and graduation serve for the attitude.Attitude resources are mainly presented by appreciation and judgement.Engagement is represented by heteroglossia characterized with verbal and summative lexis to express assertation and negotiation.In graduation,force resources are annotated more than those of focus to reflect the intensification and quantification.In terms of ecological meanings,in human and nature,heteroglossia like “gu” “yue”etc.,graduation and appreciation of attitude such as “dao da...ren yi da” reflect the principle of ecological conscience.Judgement reflects the principle of regulation for signifying the natural ecosophy of ‘wu wei’ and ‘tian dao(laws of nature)’.In human and society,appreciation representations like “...shi wei yao miao” and graduation such as“liu qin...you xiao ci” etc.reflect the principle of proximity between people.Judgement like “gong cheng shen tui,tian zhi dao”,and heteroglossia like “shi wei wu zhuang zhi zhuang...” reflect the regulation of ‘dao’ on people’s behaviors,stressing the moral cultivation in the social ecology.In human and nation,affect and appreciation like “gu de jiao” etc.,and focus like “zhi da guo ruo peng xiao xian...” and so on reflect proximity between human and nation.Judgement and heteroglossia reflect the meaning of “dao”and “harmony” in the political ecology.Based on harmonious discourse analysis,this study combines appraisal theory with theories of ecolinguistics,corpora linguistics and Daoism to provide a methodological and practical way to wenyanwen discourse in Chinese classics.Theoretically,it intends to enrich research content and method of harmonious discourse analysis.Practically,it makes audiences understand the ecosophy on harmonious discourse of Tao Te Ching well.Moreover,it is significant to raise ecological awareness adhering to the strategy of ecological civilization. |
