Food documentaries are a type of documentary that is widely accepted by the public,with exquisite screen details and full images,communicating with emotions,and using food as a carrier to display the dietary habits and emotions of the Chinese people.With the story as the main line,they present the regional cultural connotation behind food to the audience,reflecting the attitude and spirit of the Chinese people towards life.Since the broadcast of "China on the Tongue" in 2012,there has been widespread debate.Food documentaries have gained enormous development space.It not only presents different cuisines to the audience,but also demonstrates China’s geographical features,historical culture,eating habits and customs,and enhances the image of China.This article embarks from the documentary film creation theory,uses the literature research method and the case study method,combines the author’s graduation work "Rongcheng Hot Pot" to carry on the creation practice,integrates the theory with the practice,focuses on the Chengdu spicy hot pot,transmits the Chengdu people’s life philosophy and the regional culture through its cultural attribute and connotation.The paper is mainly divided into three parts.The first part is to define the relevant concepts of food documentaries and regional culture,and to sort out the internal relationship between the two,laying a theoretical foundation for subsequent research;The second part focuses on the specific analysis from the two dimensions of time and space of the topic selection strategy,combing and summarizing the main body,technique,and rhythm of the storytelling strategy,and systematically telling from the three levels of the audio-visual language strategy: lens language,sound language,and screen color;The third part is about the creation and reflection of food documentaries,analyzing the shortcomings of the image presentation strategy of regional culture in food documentaries,and looking forward to the development of the image presentation strategy of regional culture in food documentaries.Based on the author’s work "Rongcheng Hot Pot",a specific analysis and demonstration is conducted to analyze the regional culture image presentation strategy of food documentaries.The author hopes to provide some reference for the creators of food documentaries in China by exploring the presentation strategies of regional cultural images in food documentaries.
