The article takes 80 male classical dance productions from the Beijing Dance Academy since the reform and opening up of China(1978-2021)as the main object of analysis, and the causes of image building and genre transmutation would be investigated. The article is based on the theory of“Understand Human Beings And Reflect On Society”,and uses “documentary analysis”,“textual analysis” and “interview method” as the main research methods, which provide the theoretical support and research basis for this study. The article is divided into five chapters, the Chapter 1 focuses on the development philosophy and characteristics of the Department of Chinese Classical Dance of the Beijing Dance Academy over the past forty years, and compares and analyses the 80 men’s repertoires after the reform and opening up.The Chapter 2 focuses on the classification of the image of men.In the chapter, the first section of this chapter focuses on the analysis and integration of the criteria for the aesthetic classification of operatic lines, the character of classical Chinese dance movements, and poetics. In the second section, the three classification criteria are linked to the aesthetic core of classical Chinese dance, and the style and temperament of men’s images are classified into four categories: Masculine and Brave,Bold and Vigorous,Elegant and Softy, and Lively and Witty. The Chapter 3 compares the distribution of the four categories of men’s images in terms of bar and pie charts, thus exploring related phenomena and issues, such as the co-existence of ancient and modern themes and the co-existence of diversity and homogenization. The Chapter 4 analyses the causes of portrayal and transmutation, mainly external factors such as political, social and cultural factors,as well as internal factors such as the subject’s teaching materials, tournaments and teachers. The Chapter 5 aims to draw conclusions from the relationship between disciplinary attributes, teaching content and “tradition and innovation”,and to summarize experiences and reflect on problems: Chinese classical dance still needs to deepen its understanding of disciplinary attributes and traditions, and in the process of broadening aesthetic horizons, optimizing the curriculum and extending the space for innovation,to create a more vivid and genre-rich image of men.
