A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of A Study On Socialist Cultural Innovation With Chinese Characteristics(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed at the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that China’s vitality of cultural innovation and creativity needed to be stimulated and the spiritual power to achieve the great rejuvenation strengthened.Therefore,from the perspective of reality,the translator selects the book A Study on the Innovation of Socialist Culture with Chinese Characteristics as the translation practice text,which consists of seven chapters,mainly discussing how to effectively innovate the socialist cultural undertaking with Chinese characteristics on the basis of inherited tradition,so as to do its little bit to help the systematic and scientific development of the socialist cultural undertaking with Chinese characteristics.Therefore,in this translation practice,the author selects the first,the second and the third chapter as the translation practice text and uses Translation Variation Theory as the guiding method to analyze the cases.Proposed by Huang Zhonglian on the basis of translation practice,Translation Variation Theory is a specific translation method focusing on readers.In the light of in-depth understanding for the theory and original text,the author finds that it is applicable to the informative text.Therefore,for ensuring the translation quality,the author applies the specific methods,namely,four translation variation methods——selective translation,edition,adaptation and interpretation into this translation practice to analyze and discuss.On the one hand,the translation of original text is favorable for improving target readers’ understanding of Chinese culture;and on the other hand,it plays a crucial role in foreign communication and overseas image construction.In this translation practice,the author found that: in terms of selective translation,the translator should know how to take in and discard to retain the essence of the original text;from the point of edition,the translator needs to pay attention to the internal logic of the passage to achieve the overall cohesiveness and coherence of the discourse;with respect to adaptation,the translator uses the corresponding translation strategies reasonably to facilitate readers’ full understanding;in regard to interpretation,the translator can dig deeper into its inner meaning to use accurate translation method to correspond with it.With certain inspired significance for the researchers who want to study the translation of texts related to such topics,the translation practice report has broadened the scope of application of Translation Variation Theory in translation practice.
