Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev(April 23,1891-March 5,1953)was one of the famous Russian composers and pianists in the 20th century,who perfectly integrated his creative talent and performance skills,and broke the boundary of traditional harmonies to make bold innovations to create highly original musical style.Tales of the Old Grandmother was written in 1918.The composer was invited by the publishing company when he first came to the United States,but it could not be published immediately for some reasons.and it was not published for the first time until 1922.This paper is divided into three parts to study and analyze the work.The first part introduces the historical background of the work,the creative style to interpret the Russian style contained in the works and its specific interpretation.The second part selects three different performance versions,combine combined with the performance versions of different performers and the two audio files performed by the composer himself,so as to seek a version closest to the original composer’s creative intention and the emotional style.The third part of performance practice and personal reflection through the timbre,speed,strength and pedal of the work to explore the musical characteristics and performance techniques of the works,excavates the artistic value contained in the works,and provides guidance on performance interpretation.
