There is a close interaction between Sima Chengzhen’s thought and Tiantai Buddhism.Sima Chengzhen, who holds the two academic traditions of Shangqing school and Chongxuanxue,is committed to integrating the essence of Confucianism and Buddhism, and has completed the unity of reasoning and religious practice. His thoughts mainly exist in monastic works such as the Fuqijingyilun and Zuowanglun. His ideological characteristics are: starting from the practice theme of integrating body and spirit, mind and human nature,he pursues the practice ideal of "immortals and people" with a learned and integrated practice attitude and simple practice methods.Under the trend of sectarianism and Sinicization of Buddhism and the nationalization and rationalization of Taoism, the integration trend of "three religions in one" has emerged. The time and space of the coexistence of Shangqing school and Tiantai Sect pr ovided a basic field for the close interaction between Sima Chengzhen and Tiantai Buddhism.Since the northern and Southern Dynasties, both the Shangqing school and Tiantai Sect have faced the historical mission of reconciling the north and the South and c ommanding the sects. Therefore,Sima Chengzhen’s thought and Tiantai Buddhism have similarities in discipline, gradual practice and other means of practice. In addition, under the influence of the ideological trend of mind nature theory in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the two religions of Buddhism and Taoism had a full exchange in philosophical ontology and mind nature theory. At the same time, these theoretical achievements in turn promote the deepening and development of the ideological trend of mind natur e theory and practice theory. Therefore, the relationship between Sima Chengzhen’s thought and Tiantai Buddhism has had a far-reaching impact on the mutual learning of Buddhism and Taoism and the integration of Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism.
