Simulated Interpreting Report On Subtitles Of Ebola Fighters

As movies and television series play an important role in cultural communication and exchanges,they have gradually received extensive attention in cultural communication.In the meantime,subtitles play a vital role in the introduction and promotion of movie and television works.However,due to cultural differences between Chinese and Western languages,there are many difficulties in the practice of subtitle translation.Recently,subtitle translation focuses on language transformation in texts.The author finds it hard to transfer language in the text into colloquial and real-life dialogues by this way.Based on the gap,the author tries to solve these problems to pursue a target language that is more colloquial,natural and fluent by means of subtitles interpreting under the guidance of Skopos Theory.In the Skopos Theory,the Skopos,or the purpose of translating activity is brought into consideration.Its core concept is that the biggest factor determining the process of translation is the purpose of the whole act of translation.The purpose of the translation determines translation strategies that are to be employed in order to achieve a functionally adequate result.The simulated interpreting report is concerned with the subtitle interpreting program of the teleplay—Ebola Fighters.This interpreting report covers consecutive interpretation,transcription and proofreading.The analysis of interpreting skills in the stage of consecutive interpreting and rendering in the stage of transcription is a key point of this report.Based on this,the author believes that the whole process is regarded as a translation-oriented interpreting practice.In this report,with the consideration of the characteristics of subtitles,some examples of Ebola Fighters are analyzed with the Skopos Theory as a guide by adopting proper interpreting skills and approaches.The author lists out some practical interpreting skills and approaches such as syntactic linearity,omission,proper use of waiting and anticipating at the stage of consecutive interpreting as well as literal translation and free translation,domestication and foreignization at the stage of transcription.It is hoped that these interpreting and approaches can offer some insights to subtitle translators so as to make overseas audiences enjoy more excellent films and teleplays in China.
