A Study On The Subtitle Translation Of Foreign Movies And TV Series From The Perspective Of Skopos

As the widespread dissemination of foreign films and television shows in China,it has created a wave of caption translation.As an integral part of film and television works,caption translation plays an important role in cross-cultural communication.While all kinds of film and television works have been introduced and exported in large numbers,the current status of caption translation in China is worrying.Most of the personnel currently engaged in the subtitling industry are in the light of foreign interests and hobbies.Systematic professional subtitle translation has not been systematically improved.The current problem of caption translation in China is mainly reflected in the uneven quality of translators,the lack of professional training,the low quality of translation and the lack of theoretical research.Under such circumstances,it is very urgent and necessary to conduct in-depth research on caption translation.They have achieved many frontier results.Compared with the West,the study of caption translation started relatively late in China,and relatively behind in terms of the number of researchers,and the depth and breadth of the study.Therefore,how to select the appropriate translation principles to guide the translation of film and television subtitles is worth further discussion.This article selects translation skopos theory as the guiding theory of caption translation.Skopos theory emphasizes the functionality of texts and emphasizes the purpose of translation activities.This article is devoted to applying the research results of Skopos theory to guide the study of caption translation.Skopos theory has three major principles,namely,the principle of purpose,the principle of coherence and the principle of loyalty.This is the guiding principle in the study of caption translation in this paper.The points out that any translation has a purpose,translation activities are carried out around this purpose;coherence principle propose that the translation must be readable and acceptable,in line with the coherence of the language;loyalty principle suggest that the translation must be faithful to the original.These three principles form the basic principle of teleology,but the most important thing is that the principles of coherence and loyalty must be subordinated to the principle of purpose.From the perspective of Skopos,the study of caption translation of foreign films and TV shows can promote subtitle translation to adopt a variety of translation skills flexibly so that the translation can achieve the intended function and purpose.
