| With the development of globalization,cultural exchanges between China and the Western countries are becoming more and more frequent,among which traditional festivals and food culture have attracted more attention.The book “A Comparative Study on Chinese and Western Traditional Festivals and Food Culture” mainly introduces traditional Chinese and Western cultures.It compares the two cultures,reflecting the differences and similarities between them.This ranslation report aims to promote the communication and development between traditional Chinese and western festivals and food culture.The translation of the book is an attempt to promote the dissemination and research into the Chinese culture.Guided by Susan Bassnette’s cultural translation theory,this report provided corresponding translation strategies in light of the distinctive characteristics of the source discourse: the perspective of cultural distinctive vocabulary,proverbs and ancient poems,the translator used annotation,literal and free translation,domestication and foreignization,intertextuality and other methods and strategies.Furthermore,the translator mastered the relationship between vocabulary,sentence and discourse in order to better solve the translation problems.In the end,high-quality translation were produced by integrating translation purposes,methods and strategies,contents and forms of the translated discourse,intelligibility of the translated discourse and evaluation criteria.This translation practice has proved that the cultural translation theory can provide effective guidance in translating the dietary culture discourse and provide reference in translating the future dietary culture discourse. |
