A Study On The Music Programs And Educational Functions Of The Shanghai Municipal Government Radio Station (1936-1937

At the beginning of the 20 th century,radio broadcasting technology entered China.Shanghai was the first Chinese city to listen to radio broadcasting,and the early radio broadcasting was operated by foreign businessmen.With the hot operation of foreign radio stations,it gradually aroused great interest of Chinese people.So Shanghai became the most developed city in China’s broadcasting industry and the birthplace of China’s private radio stations.From 1927,Shanghai became the first city in China.By the end of 1935,a private radio station "New and New Radio Station" had risen.Over the past eight years,the number of private radio stations in Shanghai accounted for half of the total number of radio stations in China during the same period.Due to the strong commercial nature of private radio stations,which seriously curbs the function of radio stations in popularizing popular education and improving social and cultural knowledge.Since then,the Ministry of Communications,Shanghai Radio Station and Shanghai Municipal Government Radio Station have been set up one after another.The establishment of official radio stations has changed the completely commercial situation and enhanced the role of social education in broadcasting.Shanghai Municipal Government Radio officially broadcasted on March 8,1936,until it was taken over by Japanese invaders on November 27,1937.Although the broadcasting time was more than one year,Shanghai Municipal Government Radio pushed the study of broadcasting as a medium to a new climax,requiring the affiliated organs,urban public places and schools to install radio separately to expand the social role of education.Radio stations can not do without music,and music can not do without radio stations.Radio music has gradually become an important part of popular entertainment culture and social music education.Shanghai Municipal Government Radio broadcasting at that time was divided into two types: storage media mode(record)and live mode(community performance).In storage media mode,Shanghai Municipal Government Radio chose to use records as an important channel for music transmission,broadcasting daily for the longest period of 14 hours than other radio stations.In the field mode,Shanghai Municipal Government Radio has invited renowned music associations from Shanghai to perform at the station.According to the statistics of the "Declaration" program,the music associations coming to Shanghai Municipal Government Radio can be divided into five categories: national music associations,harmonica associations,anti-Japanese war singing associations,singing associations and peace opera associations.As an official radio station,Shanghai Municipal Government Radio attaches great importance to music festivals.The quality of the eyes and its educational significance,the broadcasting of anti-Japanese and national salvation songs,the popularization of harmonica music and the popularization of traditional Chinese national music,etc.are also included in the broadcasting station of Shanghai Municipal Government.Under the influence of elegant music programs,the audience can subtly cultivate the aesthetic taste of the people.Shanghai Municipal Government Radio also attaches great importance to school music programs.It not only invites teachers and students from National Academies and primary and secondary schools to perform live at the station,but also regularly invites famous musician Huang Zi to give music lectures at the station on the afternoon of the second Thursday of each month,such as Why Do We Study Music Appreciation Law,Shallow Talk about Music,etc.Huang Zi was invited to arrange music programs for Shanghai Municipal Government Radio on the first anniversary of broadcasting on March 8,1937,which shows that Shanghai Municipal Government Radio is prudent in choosing programs.This paper chooses the period from March 8,1936 to November 27,1937,refers to the materials of Radio Two Weekly,Shanghai Broadcasting Business in Old China,Shanghai Radio and Television Chronicle,and combines the newspaper materials such as Shenbao,China Radio and Shanghai Radio to study the music programs of Shanghai Municipal Government Radio Station,showing the music of Shanghai Municipal Government Radio Station.From the perspective of social music education,this paper also integrates the knowledge of broadcasting history,news history,communication and sociology.From the perspective of broadcasting music,the social music education at that time was viewed and the music culture of Shanghai city was displayed.
