Abstract/Summary:
Language learning is based on a large amount of reading, and reading plays a particularly key role in cultivating and improving students’ language skills.Because English reading plays a key role, the New English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)points out that the national English curriculum concept should build a curriculum structure based on the grading system.Based on Krashen’s language input hypothesis, schema theory, constructivist theory and learning motivation theory, this study is based on the reading literacy development goals of primary school students proposed in the Chinese Primary and Secondary School English Graded Reading Standards(Experimental). The research question is to deeply understand the reading interest and English reading level of students after the implementation of primary school English graded reading under the guidance of teachers, and find out the problems in the process of implementing primary school English graded reading under the guidance of teachers through the analysis of the current situation. The purpose of the study is to find feasible ways for teachers to use graded reading to carry out rich reading activities in after-school teaching, promote the development of students’ interest in English reading, and provide targeted guidance and suggestions for front-line teachers. Therefore,in this study, the author used the RAZ graded reading system, and W teachers carried out a one-year after-school graded reading for students.Taking a teacher W from a primary school in Zhuhai,Guangdong Province as the main observation object, the case study method of participatory observation and in-depth interview was used. After the implementation of English graded reading, the results of teacher and student interviews, the evaluation system of RAZ graded reading and students’ English reading performance were analyzed, and it was found that students’ reading interest and reading level improved after the implementation of graded reading under the guidance of teachers.Specific measures include: creat an English reading environment;ensure students’ independent reading time after class;positive evaluations stimulate students’ interest in reading;encourage students to present their reading in a variety of ways;work with parents to urge and encourage students to stick to reading and other guidance strategies. The research conclusions provide targeted guidance and suggestions for front-line teachers,so as to cultivate students’ good and stable reading habits.
