After constant nostalgia and commercialization of youth films,domestic films have finally reconsidered youth films in recent 10 years,and gradually formed two narrative modes of "cruel youth" and "growing youth",which attracted corresponding audience groups,but their box office and word of mouth formed a sharp contrast.Its narrative mode is an important reason for this phenomenon.Cruel youth films take the cruelty of youth as their creative theme,and pay attention to expressing the painful experience of youth process,so as to become a self-healing look back,which has caused permanent harm to the characters in the play,both in the growth process and at the end of the story.They become the content of youth movies with youth experience and memories of middle-aged and old people.The main narrative mode is drama or tragedy,sometimes with comedy color.Youth growth films are mainly comedy types,which are accompanied by setbacks or cruelty,but finally inspire people with victory and bright ending.Affirmed the legitimacy and necessity of cruelty in the process of youth,and regarded cruelty and failure as temporary frustration on the road of life.The former mainly highlights the cruelty and impermanence of fate,while the latter focuses on describing that man will conquer nature.Therefore,the description emphases of these two types of films are different.Cruel youth films pay more attention to the protagonists’ internal conflicts,while youth growth films emphasize external conflicts,focusing on their struggles with others,social institutions or natural forces.Different emphases lead to the contrast in narrative techniques: the former uses more small plot narrative forms to streamline causal relations,and sometimes the plot changes lack direct and clear logical relations,and the structure is lax,resulting in poor reputation.The latter uses the narrative form of big plot more,and the story structure is smooth and complete.However,because the audience prefers the experience different from daily life,the box office is not high.
