A Study Of David Hockney’s Drawing Schema Language

David Hockney is undoubtedly one of the most influential painters in the international painting world in the 20 th century.Hockney’s painting style has a great influence on the author.This thesis takes Hockney as the research object,analyzes Hockney’s painting works and explores the development process of Hockney in different periods,summarizes the influence of art schools on Hockney and compares it with the artistic styles of other painters in the same period,so as to summarize the schema language of Hockney’s painting.Combined with the author’s understanding of Hockney’s artistic language,the thesis gives a detailed description of the graduation works "Youth and Sharing" series.This thesis will interpret Hockney’s drawing schema language from four aspects.The first part tells the historical background of the formation of Hockney’s painting language,mainly combing the development of Hockney in different periods.Hockney’s greatest influences are undoubtedly Pablo Picasso and Chinese scroll painting,which directly changed Hockney’s concept of time and space.Thus,Hockney embarked on the artistic road of photographic collage.The second part describes the linguistic features of Hockney’s painting,which is mainly analyzed from the three aspects of flatness,color and new media of the picture.Hockney’s understanding of flatness is to geometrize the body and express it in the way of flat painting with bright colors.This symbol of geometrization instead of concrete has also become the symbol of Hockney’s painting.Later,Hockney painted on the ipad,which was very convenient and enabled Hockney to capture inspiration anytime and anywhere.The medium of painting creation and the style of painting were constantly updated with the development of science and technology.The third part mainly analyzes the spiritual implication of Hockney’s paintings,which are the reconstruction of space,the integration of concrete and abstract,and the creation psychology of games.It mainly reflects Hockney’s concrete painting with abstract elements in the space of time movement,and expresses it to the audience through his open mind of the game.His work is relaxed and comfortable,but also fun.The fourth part describes the influence of Hockney’s painting language on the author’s painting creation.The author has made a comprehensive analysis of the two works created by the author in the series of Youth and Sharing from three perspectives,namely,the induction of materials,photo collage and the transformation of the way of viewing.The author believes that David Hockney’s passion for art and life and the creation form are worth learning.Based on the research and analysis of David Hockney’s painting schema language,this thesis makes a comprehensive analysis of Hockney’s painting history from the perspective of understanding the artist’s artistic thoughts and appreciating paintings,which has practical guiding significance for the author’s personal artistic creation.
