| How to construct a more complete literary form theory and form criticism under the basic concept of Marxism,which is more in line with the context of Chinese literature,is one of the important issues that need to be resolved in today’s Chinese literary circle.Contemporary Western Marxist Terry Eagleton’s exploration can give us inspiration.This study focuses on Eagleton’s understanding of literary form,summarizes Eagleton’s view of literary form from multiple perspectives,discovers the characteristics of his view,and explores the construction ideas of his view according to the context of the era,social environment,and Eagleton’s life experience,and finally turns its attention back to China,referring to Eagleton’s view to reflect on the problems of the literary form study in China,to explore new directions,and to promote the construction and development of Chinese literary form theory and form criticism.Eagleton’s view of literary form is generally dialectical.In terms of the connotation of literary form,he defined literary form from processing ideologies,internalising modes of production,and aesthetic ideology,so that the connotation of literary form could go beyond the framework of ontology and instrumental theory.In terms of the relationship between literary form and content,he first deconstructed binary opposition between form and content,then deconstructed the identity between form and content,and finally constructed a tension theory,so that the relationship between literary form and content broke the opposition between dualism and identity theory.In terms of the relationship between form and social history,he elaborated from the theory of double-absence,the theory of performative and strategy,and the theory of“politics of form”,so that the relationship between literary form and social history broke through the boundary between the intrinsic study and the extrinsic study.Eagleton’s conciliatory and eclectic view corrected extreme tendencies in previous studies of literary form.Eagleton’s general idea of constructing his view of literary form is to absorb in criticism and integrate in conversation.In more than fifty years of Eagleton’s literary research career,he has always actively integrated himself into the tide of the times,criticizing the limitations of multiple theories,absorbing the beneficial elements of them,and integrating them together in appropriate ways,especially integrated them into the Marxist literary theory system he understood,and constantly adjusted his view according to the needs of the times.In the dialogue between Marxism and Formalism,in the transition from the theoretical era to the posttheoretical era,and with a deconstructive and open concept,he constructed his view of literary form.Eagleton’s view not only contains Eagleton’s own unique insights,but also is the inevitable result of the development and changes of the whole era.Since the 20 th century,the study of Chinese literary form has achieved fruitful results,but it has also been facing some staged problems,some of which have been corrected,and some still exist.Stepping into the 21 st century,we need to base ourselves on the context of the new era and carry out new reflections and developments.How to deal with the relationship between western literary theory and Chinese local literary theory in a more appropriate way,absorb the beneficial elements of heterogeneous literary theory in a more ingenious way and carry out integrated innovation,and finally develop a kind of literary form theory and form criticism which is more suitable for Chinese social reality and the vivid Chinese literary creation?Referring to Eagleton’s view of literary form and its construction ideas,this study tries to give a preliminary answer to the above questions. |
