The selected text of this translation practice report is the tenth chapter Cultural Transformation: The Australian Search for Identity of the book Social Change and Cultural Transformation.This chapter introduces the social change and cultural transformation of Australia from six aspects:social change and politics,the colonial inheritance,immigration and economic reductionism,multiculturalism and resistance to transformation,Australia and its neighbors,as well as the search of identity and the new middle class.The readers can have a clear and comprehensive understanding of the formation of Australian society and its culture.This is an informational text with strong objectivity and clear expression.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory and according to the characteristics of informative texts,the translation cases are analyzed from two aspects: lexical translation and syntactic translation.In lexical translation,the translator adopts the method of literal translation and annotation and free translation,while in syntactic translation,the translator mainly adopts the method of reverse translation and recasting.Through the translation practice,the translator hopes to improve her translation ability and provide some reference for similar texts.
