A Practice Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Under Gile’s Effort Model

This paper is a practice report on simulated consecutive interpretation of human-oriented artificial intelligence seminar held at Stanford University in 2019.Taking the question and answer process of Microsoft founder Bill Gates as the case study object,this paper analyzes the problems of interpreters in the process of impromptu speech interpretation with strong colloquial characteristics,and explores and summarizes the corresponding solutions according to the actual situation.Based on Gile’s cognitive load model and understanding equation,this paper focuses on the problems of missing and mistranslated interpretation process of impromptu speeches.The cases are analyzed and summarized from the two levels: the listening stage and the output stage.After the simulation of alternating interpretation,the translation issues were reorganized and modified according to the "reformulation”strategy.The two modified translations were listed for comparison,and the reasons for the problems were analyzed and strategies to address them were explored based on the on-site situation.In the chapter "Post-interpretation Evaluation and Summary",in addition to summarizing cases and problems,the translator also focused on comparing the two translations,combining the theoretical model of Gile’s model with practical application,and more clearly showing its own problems.Through the description and case analysis of the interpreting process,the report draws the following conclusions: Interpreters should strengthen listening practice and note-taking symbolization practice.A qualified interpreter needs to have solid bilingual ability,rich knowledge outside the language,and encyclopedic knowledge.Finally,it is necessary to correctly deal with all kinds of interpreting situations,improve psychological quality,improve stress and stress resistance ability.
