Interpretation Of Ethnic Elements And Analysis Of Performance Techniques In Tan Dun’s "Eight Memories In Watercolor"

“Eight Memories in Watercolor” Tan Dun’s first solo piano work composed in 1978,and it is also a piano suite that integrates ethnic music with Western creative techniques.Tan Dun recorded his childhood memories of life in Hunan with eight sketches of different styles,and used the brush of music to paint a vivid picture of western Hunan folk customs for us,showing the unique artistic conception of oriental music.This article is mainly composed of three parts: introduction,main text and conclusion.The first part first expounds the background and significance of the topic selection and the research status,and the second part starts from the introduction of the composer and the creative background of the work,and interprets in detail the ethnic elements applied in“Eight Memories in Watercolor”,which is mainly studied in four aspects: first,the imitation of ethnic instrumental music;Second,the reference of folk song elements;3.Reproduction of folk customs and customs;4.Depiction of natural imagery.Excavate the ethnic characteristics contained in the works in an all-round way.Finally,some musical elements involved in the work are analyzed,such as staccato,grace note,arpeggio,playing technique of musical scale,the way chords are touched,and the use of pedals.It also summarizes the scientific and reasonable practice and performance methods,and comprehensively analyzes the performance skills of the works based on their own performance experience and experience.The third part summarizes the whole text,hoping that through the exploration of ethnic elements and the analysis of performance skills in this Chinese piano music work,the audience can better understand ethnic folk music,inherit and promote excellent ethnic culture,and enable learners to get help in piano playing skills,improve their own performance level,and better interpret musical works.
