The Art of War of Sun Tzu,written by Sun Wu during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period,is the earliest military book in existence in China and the earliest military book in the world.It is the concentrated embodiment of the essence of ancient military thought.It is known as the "Holy Book of War" and the "Ancient First Military Book".There are 13 books in the book,and there are about6000 words in total.According to the author’s statistics,there are 77 idioms in total.By placing the study of idioms in "The Art of War" under the perspective of cultural linguistics,this article exhaustively sorts out and classifies the idioms in "The Art of War",and explores the idiom culture in "The Art of War" from multiple aspects such as their etymology,content,meaning evolution,and cultural perspective.Through a historical perspective,this paper dialectically discusses the inheritance and development of idioms in Sun Tzu’s Art of War,as well as their impact on culture.It is found that the idioms in Sun Tzu’s Art of War,with their breadth of content and depth of thought,made them unique in the pre Qin period,and closely followed the trend of the times to develop forward,glowing with new vitality.The content of this paper is as follows:The introduction part indicates the reason and significance of the topic selection of this paper,the current research status of writing idioms and "The Art of War",the version description of "The Art of War" and dictionaries used in this paper,and introduces the research methods and theoretical basis of this paper.The first chapter conducts an exhaustive survey of the idioms in "The Art of War",including the idioms pioneered in "The Art of War" and the idioms formed through modification.The second chapter analyzes the characteristics of idioms in Sun Tzu’s Art of War by exploring the etymology,content,structure,and other aspects of idioms in Sun Tzu’s Art of War.Chapter Three classifies the meaning development of idioms in Sun Tzu’s Art of War by exploring their use.The main classifications include direct use of the original meaning,extension from the original meaning,use of metaphors,and meaning conversion.The fourth chapter,from the perspective of cultural linguistics,provides a high-level summary of military practical activities from the philosophical level,elaborates on the cultural factors contained in the idioms in "The Art of War",and promotes Sun Tzu’s military science by studying the idioms in "The Art of War",allowing the wisdom and strategies in "The Art of War" to play a greater role on a broader stage.The conclusion serves as the concluding part,which will summarize the above parts of the book.
