The aesthetic style of A Dream of Red Mansions has sparked much debate in the Hongloumeng Studies.Despite the shortcomings in previous research,scholars are now turning to the aesthetic interpretation of this masterpiece as a new academic paradigm.This article delves into the beauty behind the “Resentment without Anger” aesthetic found in A Dream of Red Mansions through a combination of storytelling and aesthetics,as well as a deep analysis of the text’s historical context.The cultural significance of this aesthetic is also explored.With a focus on exploring the diverse and rich aesthetic implications of Dream of the Red Mansions,this study aims to answer the call for a return to the text in Hongloumeng Studies research.This article is divided into three captivating chapters that delve into the beauty of Confucian aesthetics.Chapter One is a mesmerizing journey that takes readers on a historical review of the “Resentment without Anger” theory in Hongloumeng Studies history since the 1950 s.Through a thorough analysis of the influence of Yu Pingbo’s Confucian scholar temperament and New Wave ideas on this theory,the chapter explores the process of reevaluation and interpretation.Readers will be enchanted by the poetic proposition of “Resentment without Anger” and the chapter’s exploration of the aesthetic spirit that lies within the contradiction and unity between “Resentment” and“Non-Resentment”.Chapter Two delves into the captivating world of A Dream of Red Mansions and sheds light on the profound manifestations of the “Resentment without Anger” aesthetic style,exploring it through the lenses of “language”,“characters”,and “themes”.This chapter also showcases the pivotal role of this style in shaping the very fabric of Dream of the Red Mansions.Moving ahead to Chapter Three,the author embarks on a journey to uncover the backstory of Cao Xueqin,his creative vision,and the historical backdrop of his era,seeking to unravel the genesis of the “Resentment without Anger” aesthetic style in A Dream of Red Mansions.The chapter presents the significance of this style in laying the foundation for new Hongloumeng Studies research,carrying forward China’s lyrical tradition,and paving the way for literary tragedy.Furthermore,from an aesthetic standpoint,the chapter offers a fresh interpretation of Yu Pingbo’s theory of “Resentment without Anger” in A Dream of Red Mansions.
