Morandi Painting Gray Tone Analysis And Personal Practice Application

The famous Italian painter Giorgio Morandi is known for his simple,introverted and subtle still life paintings.Morandi uses a unique artistic concept to explain the simple beauty of things.His paintings create a simple and quiet picture through simple shapes and advanced elegant gray tones.Color is one of the important methods of expression in painting.The spiritual implication of gray in Morandi’s painting is similar to the charm of ink in Oriental Chinese painting.Therefore,Morandi is also known as "the Western painter with the most Oriental spirit".Based on the analysis of Morandi’s gray tone,this paper discusses from four aspects: Morandi’s life and character,the artistic origin and characteristics of Morandi’s painting gray tone,the expression of gray tone in the picture,the correspondence between the spiritual implication of gray tone and the traditional Chinese aesthetic thought,and the inspiration and practice of Morandi’s artistic concept and color form for personal artistic creation:Part Ⅰ: By studying Morandi’s life and personality characteristics,this paper analyzes and concludes the internal factors of the formation of the gray tone in Morandi’s paintings,summarizes the artistic origin of the formation of the gray tone in Morandi’s paintings by studying the painters and painting schools that have had an important influence on Morandi’s art form,and then studies and analyzes the characteristics of the gray tone in the paintings of different periods of Morandi’s painting style.This will lay the foundation for further study on the form and connotation of Morandi grey tone.Part Ⅱ: Analyze and study the expression form of gray tone in Morandi’s painting,and compare the expression form of gray tone with some Chinese paintings with similar expression form,to explore the artistic expression of gray tone in the painting.Part Ⅲ: This paper makes an in-depth analysis of the spiritual implication embodied by the gray tone in Morandi’s paintings,and compares it with the traditional Oriental aesthetic ideas,so as to reveal that Eastern and Western art are interlinked after reaching a certain height.Both the subtle order of gray tones in Morandi’s paintings and the ever-changing ink gray in Chinese paintings are formed based on the artist’s long-term exploration and practice of color,reflecting the artist’s spiritual temperament,artistic accomplishment and artistic style.Part Ⅳ: This paper expounds the influence and practice of Morandi’s artistic concepts and color forms on personal creation.On the one hand,it improves the perception ability of ordinary things and the innovation ability based on tradition.On the other hand,it uses Morandi’s gray color system and the application processing of color lines for reference,so as to optimize the form of personal creation and enhance the artistic height and artistic connotation of personal painting works.
