Surrealism is one of many modernism art schools emerging in Europe in the early 20 th century. It first occurred in the field of drama, and then rapidly expanded to various art categories such as literature, painting, film and photography. It once became the mainstream art school in the 1920s-1930 s,and its influence continues to this day. This school presents the aesthetic psychological characteristics of "daydreaming" in its creation. The work presents a dreamy atmosphere as a whole. This is because surrealist artists are deeply influenced by Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, pay attention to revealing people’s subconsciousness. They care about irrational and unconscious expression, oppose the idea of realism and pay attention to people’s inner world under the surface of reality."Daydream" comes from Freud’s theory. In essence,it is a fantasy in a non sleep state formed by imitating the form of night dream. In surrealist art,it is manifested in the reproduction of dream in creative content and the irrational characteristics of creative form. The generation mechanism of daydreams in surrealism is rooted in the social context, artistic inheritance and psychological philosophy during World War I.At that time, the first world war destroyed the civilized beliefs established since the 19 th century, making the confused modernist trend of thought diffuse.Faced with the current situation of rational collapse, surrealists were deeply influenced by Freud’s psychoanalysis.Inspired by the symbolic literature of the 19 th century and the anarchist ideas of dada at the beginning of the 20 th century, they chose daydreaming as a means to complete the exploration of the subconscious. In various art categories such as literature, painting, drama and film, surrealist daydreams have obtained their unique presentation methods, but behind different presentation methods, there is an isomorphic core, that is,the pursuit of free imagination.Surrealists try to release people’s thoughts by daydreaming,so as to break through the shackles of inherent logic and rationality, surpass the boundary of reality, and finally achieve the "surreal" state of the integration of dream and reality. As far as its artistic characteristics are concerned, the daydreams of surrealist art not only show the characteristics of irrational and unconscious thinking, but also convey the concepts of life such as equality and love.It uses a large number of metaphors to form its unique symbolic characteristics. Moreover, due to the interaction and interaction between artists in different fields, surrealistic daydream creation also shows intermediality. In its sense, daydreaming,as an irrational fantasy, can see through human nature unconsciously and realize the artist’s personal psychological expression. At the same time,it is precisely because of its irrational characteristics and the confrontation between rational reality that it has become a means for surrealists to change their lives.Although the surrealism movement has come to an end,it has influenced many art schools that have risen since then.Daydreaming also continues its life with different expressions in various art forms.Today’s art development can still gain experience and reflection from it.
