Development And Reliability And Validity Test Of The Family Atmosphere Scal

Family atmosphere,as a psychological atmosphere created by the interaction of family members and experienced by individuals,plays an important role in promoting individual growth and development,improving moral cultivation,promoting social achievements,and ensuring mental health.However,existing research has not yet formed a unified and clear definition of family atmosphere.Researchers usually choose different scales to assess family atmosphere based on different theoretical concepts and research purposes,resulting in some controversy and limitations in the measurement results.Therefore,this study aims to develop a family atmosphere scale with sufficient theoretical basis,clear structure,and more comprehensive content,and to test its reliability and validity in college students.Study 1 strictly follows the procedure for developing the scale.Based on previous research and semi-structured interview results,and under the guidance of relevant theories,a family atmosphere structure model is constructed to develop a family atmosphere scale for college students in China’s cultural background.The scale consists of 49 items and includes 5 dimensions: intimacy,harmony,democracy,sense of security,and sense of order.In a sample consisting of 416 participants,the model structure was explored through item analysis and factor analysis,and items were screened to form a formal scale(consisting of 24 questions and 4 factors: intimacy,harmony and safety,democracy,and sense of order).The 4-factor model fitting index reached an acceptable level(CFI=.925,TLI=.916,RMSEA=.076).Keep the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the question between.739(harmony and safety)and.893(intimacy).On the basis of Study 1,Study 2 conducted reliability and validity tests on the final scale in a sample consisting of 812 participants.The final scale consists of 19 questions,including 4 dimensions(intimacy,harmony and safety,democracy,and sense of order),with good reliability and validity.The structural validity results showed that the fitting index of the 4-factor model reached an acceptable level(CFI=.924,TLI=.912,RMSEA=.090,SRMR=.058),which met the psychometric standards.In terms of the validity of school standards,the correlation coefficient between the self-made scale and the simplified family atmosphere scale is.81;The correlation coefficients between rejection,emotional warmth,and overprotective parenting styles were-.55,.76,and-.23,respectively;The correlation coefficients with the emotional regulation dimension are.49(cognitive reappraisal)and-.15(expression inhibition);The correlation coefficient with depression is-.40,both reaching a statistically significant level.In terms of reliability,the Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for each dimension of the scale range from.693(intimacy)to.809(democracy),with an overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of.903;The retest reliability of each dimension of the scale ranges from.585(sense of order)to.683(democracy),with an overall retest reliability of.635.
