Mr.Chen Zhenduo,a famous erhu educator,performer and composer in China,is the disciple of Mr.Liu Tianhua,the great master of Erhu.He carries on the development and reform of folk music advocated by his predecessor,Mr.Tianhua,and carries on the past and the future."Singing in Sickness" is one of Liu Tianhua’s ten Erhu compositions,and also Liu Tianhua’s first musical composition.As an instrumental piece of epoch-making significance in the history of modern Chinese music,it expresses the dissatisfaction with the social status quo in the old era and the unremitting pursuit of bright ideals.The purpose of this paper is to discuss Chen Zhenduo’s inheritance and development of Liu Tianhua’s Erhu work "Singing in Sickness",and to elaborate Chen Zhenduo’s status and outstanding contribution in the development history of Erhu.
