| Thomas Jefferson,a famous American enlightenment thinker and educator,is a bourgeois democratic revolution,a Founding Fathers of the United States of the United States,the drafter of the Declaration of Independence,and the third and fourth presidents of the United States.He has made important contributions in the fields of politics,economy,and education,which have had a profound impact on future generations.He devoted his whole life to promoting and practicing the modern educational reform movement.Jefferson’s educational ideology is a reflection of his democratic politics in the field of education,and is an important part of his exploration of the development of the country and nation.He devoted his whole life to establishing and safeguarding democracy,and worked hard to achieve this goal.And his civic education ideology is precisely the solution he proposed for his democratic goals.This article aims to explore the logic behind the emergence of Jefferson’s civic education ideology in the early stages of American democracy,analyze the inherent logic between Jefferson’s democratic political goals and his civic education ideology,and thus provide us with a certain understanding of the relationship between democratic politics and civic education.It can also further understand the contribution of Jefferson’s civic education ideology in the history of global civic education ideology.Firstly,by sorting out and studying Jefferson’s life experience,we analyze the internal reasons for Jefferson’s establishment of democratic goals from the perspective of Jefferson’s personal experience.At the same time,we can find that during this period,some people in society also began to pursue democracy,which greatly stimulated Jefferson’s confidence in establishing democratic goals.Then,by studying the democratic view of Europe in the 18 th century and that of American society,which was deeply influenced by European political thought,we can find that in Jefferson’s era,both European and American society had great distrust of democratic thought,which was a great challenge to Jefferson’s establishment of democratic system.Therefore,the next step is to explore the formal proposal and formation of Jefferson’s democratic concept in this situation.After putting forward the democratic concept and establishing the democratic ideal,in order to consolidate and safeguard the democratic system,he proposed the solution of civic education,and how it is reflected in his idea of civic education.After the above research,this paper explores the important position and role of Jefferson’s civic education thought in the American democratic system and the contemporary era.Through the above research,we can find that at that time,both Europe and the United States as a whole were spreading strong anti democratic ideas,with strong rejection and distrust of democracy.In this context,Jefferson was still full of confidence in democratic thought and democratic system,and he was able to fight against the public opinion in the social environment at that time,implement civic education,and work hard for his democratic goals.Therefore,Jefferson’s civic education thought was formed to achieve his democratic goal,and its specific implementation methods were all set up around how to establish and consolidate the democratic system.The ultimate goal is to improve the comprehensive quality of citizens through civic education,so that citizens have the ability to participate in political affairs,so as to better participate in national affairs,grasp national power,and establish and consolidate democratic systems. |
