| The U.S.Consular Report is one text conveying commercial and economic information about the countries in which the U.S.consuls stationed abroad regularly send back to their own governments, which possesses certain historical research value.Consular report texts contain quite stylistic semantic expressions, logically rigorous complex syntactic structures, and convey a large number of implicit political views,as well as rich economic and trade historical background information, which as a whole presents characteristics such as logic, politics, and rigor. This translation practice report takes the U.S.consular report(excerpt)of the Commerce reports.Supplement.Annual series,a text of consular reports on economic and trade historical materials,as the translation practice and translation research object. This thesis focuses on the corresponding "expilicitation" translation strategies for the translation of implicit information, which is common in this kind of economic and trade consular reports. In the process of translation practice, the translation difficulties at the above level are manifested as the complicated expression of semantic implicit subjectivity, the frequent occurrence of logical implicit syntactic structure, and the complicated text implicit background information. In view of the above translation difficulties, translators adapt and select translation strategies according to the differences between English and Chinese languages and take into account such texts.Corresponding specific “expilcitation” solutions are adopted in this practice, such as objectification of subjective semantic expression, rearrangement of syntactic structure logic to be simplified and comprehensive explicitation of implicit political and historical background information,so as to maximize the effect of being faithful to the original text and easy for the target language readers to read. The theoretical exploration of "explicitation" translation strategies accumulated in this translation practice provide a supplement to the theoretical system of explicit translation strategies for implicit information and a reference for translation researchers. In addition,a large number of historical, economic and trade, and diplomatic background knowledge are supplemented by excerpts from the text of the consular report on economic and trade historical materials, providing certain reference value for related research in other fields. |
