This practice report is based on the C-E translation project of A Development Overview of Guang’an over the Past 70 Years commissioned by the Office of Guang’an Chronicles.The book,in a chronological order,presents a detailed description of the achievements the city has made in the political,economic,cultural,social,and ecological fields since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago.In recent years,Guang’an has been included in the construction of the ChengduChongqing Economic Circle and the development strategy of the Chongqing Metropolitan Area.Thanks to the support of national and local policies,a solid industrial foundation,and abundant tourism resources,Guang’an has also garnered increasing attention from both domestic and international investors and tourists.As such,the English version of this book can serve as a useful referential material for foreign investors and tourists.A Development Overview of Guang’an over the Past 70 Years is a political and economic text dotted with remarkable Chinese characteristics,which is specifically reflected in the following aspects: the text contains a large number of political and economic terms,and also involves professional terms in such fields as industry,geography,and culture;It is abundant with expressions with profound cultural connotation and outstanding regional characteristics,which are steeped in history;the text uses a wealth of rhetorical devices to enhance the readability and vividness of the language;the sentences contain a mass of parallel structures,which are neat in form,information-intensive and magnificent in tone;as a text with formal style,the format is standard,and the overall structure and logic are clear.Based on the four text functions put forward by Christiane Nord,namely,referential,expressive,appellative,and phatic functions,and according to the functions to be realized in the TT,this translation practice applies documentary translation and instrumental translation to analyze the specific objects in detail to achieve the translation purpose and attain the desired effect.Through ST analysis,theoretical study and case analysis,the report finds that documentary translation and instrumental translation proposed by Nord,coupled with text functions,can guide the translation of political and economic texts and provide a reference of strategies in translating such texts,focusing on lexical,syntactic,and rhetorical aspects.This reflects its insufficiently tapped application value and broad application prospect.These efforts and findings can serve as a reference for translation practices and research.
