| Tang Muzong Li Heng(795-824),the third son of Tang Xianzong, inherited the "revival" situation created by Xianzong. This thesis is to discuss the evolution of the political situation in the four years from Tang Muzong’ s accession to the throne in the first month of leap of the fifteenth year of Yuanhe(820)to Tang Muzong’ s death in the first month of the fourth year of Changqing(824)to reveal the characteristics and historical significance of the political evolution in this period. As the crown prince, there was no dispute about Mu Zong’ s succession to the throne. However, the eunuch’s practice of killing Emperor Xianzong not only helped Muzong ascend the throne, but also further increased the authority of eunuchs and influenced Muzong’ s decisions in many ways. Thus cast a shadow over the political situation.Since the Muzong Dynasty, the eunuch group ruled that the heir to the throne and eunuchs and soldiers to participate in politics became the practice, and their position in the central power structure was more stable, which profoundly affected the political evolution of the middle and late Tang Dynasty.Muzong shouldered the important mission of consolidating the political achievements of the previous dynasty. At the beginning of Muzong’ s accession to the throne,he made personnel adjustments to the two major political forces, namely,Prime Minister and Hanlin Bachelor, but did not achieve significant results. The development of crony politics caused bureaucratic groups to fall into internal friction, which seriously affected the normal operation of state affairs. With the Changqing Imperial Court case as an example, political conflicts gradually heated up.Li Fengji took the opportunity to seize the phase and fight against the dissenter. His practice of connecting eunuchs made the party struggle gradually controlled by the inner court and the dependence of the outer court officials on eunuchs increased. On the issue of handling fanzhen, although Muzong made some reasonable measures during the annexation of Youzhou,he made more serious mistakes, which led to the war in Hebei again.Youzhou,Chengde and Weibo rebelled one after another, and the Tang Court lost control of Heshuo.Muzong realized that the existing strength of the imperial government alone could not completely solve the problem of vassal state separatist regime,so his vassal policy became more rational and pragmatic, and the political concept of "abandoning Hebei and controlling the rest" basically took shape. On the whole, due to the limitations of their own abilities and the environment of The Times,Muzong’ s series of efforts to consolidate the regime and stabilize his rule during the Changqing period, failed in the continuation of political achievements,it also aggravated the ruling crisis of Tang Dynasty. |
