Music Analysis And Performance Research Of Huang Huwei’s "Fantasia On The Jialing River"

With the continuous integration of Chinese and Western music culture,more and more Chinese composers have created music works with Chinese flavors using the traditional western instrument,the piano.A well-known masterpiece is Mr.Huang Huwei’s "Fantasia on the Jialing River".It has a distinctive compositional style and regional characteristics with the music of Bashu as its main subject.In this work,Mr.Huang Huwei combined pentatonic harmonic writing techniques of Chinese characteristics with piano performance skills,creating a music treasure with unique ethnic characteristics in the Bashu area.The main body of the thesis consists of four parts.The first part introduces the biographical background of Mr.Huang Huwei and the background of "Fantasia on the Jialing River".The second part analyzes the structure and tonality of the masterpiece,as well as the superposition of pentatonic harmonies in the piece.The third part is the study of Bashu music style and ethnic instrumental sounds contained in the piece.The final section examines the performance in terms of performance style and one’s own performance practice,summarizing the touch,timbre,rhythm,intensity and pedals that need to be taken into account when playing.Through the study of Mr.Huang Huwei’s "Fantasia on the Jialing River",this thesis hopes to further taste the characteristics and charm of the ethnic native music of the Bashu region,to explore the use of Chinese pentatonic harmonic writing techniques in the creation of piano works,and to experience the profound ethnic culture and national self-confidence of the Chinese nation.
