| Olfactory narrative narration refers to the expression and writing related to smell in narrative works.Narrative works contain rich olfactory writing,and play a narrative effect and aesthetic effect on the narrative process that cannot be matched by such narrative methods as sight and hearing.Both Proust’s novels and Mo Yan’s novels present a rich sense of olfactory smells,presented in various genres such as the smell of plants or flowers,the smell of animals,the smell of the body,and the smell of objects.With multiple types of olfactory smells as the carrier,it reproduces people’s memory,desires and identity pursuits.Based on Proust’s masterpiece "Memories of the Past" and Mo Yan’s novels,this paper focuses on the analysis of differences in similarities and differences in similarities analyzes between Proust’s novels and Mo Yan’s olfactory narration in three aspects: the review of memory,the stimulation of instinctive desire and the pursuit of cultural identity.The first part focuses on the analysis of memory reliving in olfactory narratives in literary texts.Based on the memory properties theory of smell,it is pointed out that Proust and Mo Yan jointly paid attention to the awakening effect of olfactory smell on human unconscious memory.The difference is that Proust’s lost memories are beautiful in his lost memories,and the memories of Mo Yan’s passing are often wild pasts.The second part focuses on the analysis of desire writing in olfactory narratives.Based on the desire attribute theory of smell,it is pointed out that Proust and Mo Yan jointly use olfactory narratives to show people’s instinctive desires,the former often stimulates pure love with smell,while the latter tends to stimulate wild lust.The third part focuses on the construction of cultural identity in olfactory narratives.Based on the identity attribute theory of smell,this paper analyzes the close relationship between character identity and different smells in Proust and Mo Yan’s novels.In addition,the characters’ search for different smells shows the way in which different cultural identities are constructed.The former pursues the familiar smell of the self,while the latter pursues the fresh smell of the other.Sensory narrative is an inevitable turn in contemporary narrative research,and the sense of smell,as one of the five senses,is increasingly receiving the attention it deserves.The smell from the nasal cavity,from the outside to the inside,from the surface to the corn,from reality to imagination,fully excavates the unconscious rich mineral deposits,and realizes the hazy but real aesthetic effect.The paper mainly uses the methods of interdisciplinary research and parallel research,involving psychology,sociology and other disciplines,to explore the similarities and differences of Proust and Mo Yan’s olfactory narratives,and presents the significance of olfactory for the narrative text in the construction of three themes of memory,desire and identity with the joint creative tendency of Chinese and Western writers. |
