The themes and subjects of Northeast cinema during the transition period are always closely related to the characteristics of the transition era,with the transformation of Northeast China and even China’s modernity process as the core content,reflecting a strong sense of staging.On the one hand,the Northeast films of this stage tend to depict the process of modernity during the transition of the field with realism,either praising or reflecting on it,while on the other hand,they also reflect on the rupture and heavy impact of the transformation of modernity with an aesthetic modernity consciousness,expressing deep emotions and spiritual inspiration for a region in an aesthetic way.The films of Northeast China during the transition period reflect the arduous transformation process of the Northeast China from the 1990 s to the present,especially the profound change from the planned system to the market system.Northeast cinema presents the whole process of modernity change during the transition period with keen thinking,tells life stories about the pain of modernity rupture,expresses the contradictions of modernity spirit,and introspects and reflects on various aspects of modernity culture.Specifically,while sticking to the observation of the times,Tohoku films especially reflect on the pain of the rupture of modernity brought about by the transformation of the times,and many of them not only reflect a profound understanding of reality,but also a sincere insight into the world of human hearts.The contradictions of modernity arising from the transformation are reflected in the films of Northeast China in the form of absurd and humorous expressions,a mixture of sadness and joy,and a unique image quality.While some of the works are heavy and sad,Northeast films have the courage and strength to face reality with comedy and poetry,to find themselves with warm nostalgic stories,to fight against difficulties with poetic emotions,and to lift their spirits,thus completing the aesthetic breakthrough of the negative aspects of modernity in Northeast China during the transition period.This paper examines the social system,economic development,human existence and life feelings expressed in Northeast films during the transition period,and summarizes the process of regional modernity presented in Northeast films by taking the symptoms of modernity presented in the films as the main content.At the same time,the aesthetic modernity characteristics of Northeast films and their reflection and transcendence of reality are extracted.
