Combining the analysis of Yan Lianke's life experience and the text analysis, this thesis discusses the creative characteristic of his novels from Yan Lianke's explore to the civil living plight and the way of civil liberation . And this thesis inspects the evolution process of his creative thinking. Then the thesis shows his novels' contemporary value and significance.The thesis is composed of the following parts.Introduction—Mainly introduces Yan Lianke's achievements and the status in the literature criticism area at present. Contrasts with some other writers , such as Wang Zengqi, Mo Yan and Jia Pingwa , pointing out his novels' contemporary value and significance, and the value of this reaserch.Chapter One—The contemporary suffering of the civil. This chapter is composed of two parts: The description of the civil living plight and the suppression from the power.Chapter Two—Going out of the civil. Based on a lot of text analysis, shows that after finding the contemporary suffering of the civil, Yan Lianke starts to seek the way out of the plight. He let them going out of the villages, but they lose themselves in spirit. And what's more, they meet with the disdain of urban civilization . The way out of the civil plight is still a problem.Chapter Three—The thinking of returning to the civil. This chapter mainly shows that after the failure of seeking help to the armies and the cities, Yan Lianke devotes his attention to the farmers on the land. But he realizes that they also experiencing the great shock from the modern commercial civilization and the material interests. Their spirits also experience the social irritability and even happen distortion and painful metamorphosis during the period of social transition . But Yan Lianke doesn't give up his thinking, he finds the positive factors of the civil from the modern vision and imaging the future from the blend of the traditional and modern values.Conclusion—Inspects Yan Lianke's novels in the environment of the contemporary social transition period, then points out that the anxiety about the civil living plight and the way of civil liberation during the period of social transition running through his creation is just the creative characteristic of Yan Lianke's novels. And it also reflects the writer's human care. The consistent attention to the problem of human existence makes his novels having the character of modernity significance.
