The armed slave uprising in the first half of the 19 th century is an important part of the history of the slave struggle in Brazil and the most influential part of the history of the slave struggle in Latin America at the same time. The outbreak of slave uprising during this period became an important factor in the abolition of slave trade in Brazil, and also promoted the political, economic and social transformation of Brazil together with other social factors. This paper is divided into four parts to discuss the Brazilian slave armed uprising in the first half of the 19 th century, focusing on the evolution of its rise and fall, content, characteristics and influence,on the basis of which reveals the historical features of the Brazilian slave resistance movement in the first half of the 19 th century. The first part mainly analyzes the rise of slave uprising in Brazil in the first half of the19 th century. In the early 19 th century, relations between Brazil and Portugal deteriorated and the independence movement in Brazil was in full swing. At the same time, the prosperity of sugar economy made Brazil and Africa import a large number of black slaves. After these slaves entered Brazil, the living environment was extremely bad and their personal safety could not be guaranteed. Therefore, black slaves took the opportunity to fight, launched a number of armed uprisings. The slave armed uprisings in this period were mainly spontaneous with dispersed forces, small scale, lack of organization and plan, and ended in failure. However, they impacted the existing social order, affected the government’s slave policy formulation, encouraged slaves to fight for freedom and emancipation, and laid the foundation for the subsequent large-scale slave armed uprisings. The second part focuses on the growth of the slave uprising in the first half of the 19 th century. After independence,Brazil was beset by internal and external difficulties, and conditions for slaves remained extremely difficult. Therefore, slaves took advantage of the situation to launch a number of uprisings. The slave armed uprisings in this period had a certain organization and planning,a large number of participants,a large scale, and fierce struggles,so it had a far-reaching impact. It intensified social instability in Brazil, prompting the Brazilian government to take more strict control over slaves to ensure social security. At the same time,it also alerted the Brazilian authorities to the potential harm caused by the African black slave trade, and finally accelerated the pace of abolishing the slave trade in Brazil. The third part examines the decline of the slave uprising in Brazil in the first half of the19 th century. After 1835,the social situation in Brazil became stable and the development gradually got on track.During this period, the Brazilian government’s effective suppression of the armed slave uprising contributed to the fact that there was no large-scale slave uprising in Brazil from 1836 to 1850.However,because slavery still exists, there are still small-scale slave riots and insurrections in Brazil. These small-scale slave uprisings, together with the social movement in Brazil and the abolitionist advocacy of Britain internationally, eventually contributed to the abolition of the black Brazilian slave trade. At the same time,it also promoted the introduction of social security policies in Brazil to ensure the public safety of the city. The fourth part of the first half of the 19 th century Brazil slave armed uprising overall analysis. The slave uprising in Brazil had a positive impact on the transformation and development of the society, but it also exposed the contradictions among the various races of black slaves,as well as a series of problems such as lack of strategic goals, weak social foundation and weak organization. So the slave struggle ended in failure. However,in the first half of the 19 th century, the spirit of courage to resist, courage to fight and pursuit of freedom conveyed by the armed slave uprising in Brazil and the slave resistance movements in the Americas finally promoted the abolition of the Atlantic slave trade and wrote an important chapter in the history of slave resistance in the Americas.
