With the intensification of population aging in our country, various issues related to the elderly are emerging, among which the issue of the richness of natural spoken vocabulary of elderly people in rural areas deserves attention.Vocabulary serves as an important medium for information transmission and is the basic unit of writing and oral communication. The richness of vocabulary plays a role in assessing the quality of writing in bilingual writing research and is also an important measure in language proficiency research. Therefore, this paper takes vocabulary richness as the starting point to explore the basic situation of vocabulary production in natural spoken language among elderly people in rural areas. This study focuses on elderly people in Shiyuan Village,Xingguo County,Ganzhou City, and interviews were conducted to obtain a total of 996 minutes of recorded audio, which was transcribed into a text of nearly 150,000 words as research data. The content of the analysis mainly includes three aspects: the analysis of gender and age differences in vocabulary richness among rural elderly people, and the analysis of cultural differences in vocabulary richness among elderly people. In the analysis of gender differences in vocabulary richness among rural elderly people, there is a statistically significant negative correlation between the density of nouns in vocabulary richness and the density of nouns in oral vocabulary production. There is also a statistically significant positive correlation between the density of adjectives and the complexity of adjectives. In other words, elderly men in rural areas perform better than women in terms of noun density, but they have a slight disadvantage in terms of adjective density and adjective complexity. In the analysis of age differences in vocabulary richness among rural elderly people, although there are individual differences among individuals, correlation analysis shows that there is no significant correlation between the age of rural elderly people and the richness of oral vocabulary production in the 80-90 age group. In the analysis of cultural differences in vocabulary richness among elderly people, there is a significant negative correlation between the cultural level of elderly people and the density of verbs. There is a significant positive correlation between the density of adjectives, noun diversity, verb diversity, adjective diversity, noun complexity, verb complexity, adjective complexity, and cultural level. In other words, elderly people with lower education levels have higher noun density in natural spoken language compared to highly educated elderly people, but their performance in terms of adjective density, noun diversity, verb diversity, adjective diversity, noun complexity, verb complexity, and adjective complexity is lower than that of highly educated elderly people. These factors tend to improve with the increase in the cultural level of elderly people.
