Tan Yan-kai was a famous statesman and calligrapher in the period of the Republic of China.This paper aims to further study Tan Yan-kai’s shukai origins,calligraphy stages and shukai thoughts by collecting and sorting out his calligraphy works,diaries,poetry manuscripts and personal letters.Second,based on Tan Yan-kai’s early creation works,an analysis of its calligraphic origins showed that Tan Yan-kai’s early calligraphy style was influenced by the calligraphy style,and its calligraphy style mixed Yan,Ou and Zhao.Middle-aged people widely copied Yan Zhenqing’s various periods of stele,in the "Magu Xian Altar record" hard work,formed the Yan as the school of calligraphy aesthetic taste and calligraphy creation;In his later years,he pursued Song and made every effort to innovate.Third,through sorting out relevant historical materials of Tan Yan-kai,it summed up its bright ideas of Shu Lean-kai,such as the concept of techniques,aesthetics and art.Fourth,it analyzes the influence Tan Yan-kai’s calligraphy exerted on the calligraphers of the Republic of China and their own creation.Tan Yan-kai’s whole life was divided into Tang and Song dynasties.It was built on the foundation of character and style and finally achieved great success.His calligraphy had been enriched into a strong,elegant and majestic character by the application of pen to seal characters and principles,straight,broad and varied styles,and ink in appropriate shades and shades.
