In the context of social decision-making,we should not only adopt others’ suggestions, but also put forward suggestions to others.Although for a long time, researchers in the field of recommendations have mainly focused on the process of advice-taking,recently a small number of researchers have begun to study the advice-giving.Some studies have pointed out that power,as an important social variable, will affect individual decision-making behavior. For example,high-power people are more self-interest than low-power people in the distribution of interests between themselves and others. However, other studies in the field of organization point out that employees with a high sense of power are more likely to make advice-giving that are beneficial to the organization but have certain risks than employees with low power. Therefore,it is still unclear whether power increases individual self-interest in the proposal situation. This study explores the impact of a sense of power on advisors’ self-interest suggestions in the context of conflict of interests between advisor and recipients.Study 1 mainly explores the influence of different sense of power and suggestion conditions on the self-interested suggestion of the advisers under conflict of interest.Participants were randomly assigned to high and low power conditions to complete the task of proposing suggestions as advisers The results show that under the basic conditions, the self-interest suggestions put forward by the advisors under the situational conditions will increase, and the proportion of self-interest suggestions put forward by the high-power individuals under the basic conditions and situational conditions is higher than that of the low-power individuals.Research in the field of ethics has found that in some cases, people may be forced to give up an outcome that maximizes their return because they don’t want to appear selfish in front of themselves or others Previous studies have found that the factor of early warning can mitigate the self-interested suggestion making. Therefore, the variable of early warning is added in study 2.Before making a choice, the advisor should be warned in advance to provide a written reason for the choice,so as to further explore the influence of the existence of early warning on the tendency of individuals with high or low sense of power to make self-interested suggestions The results show that forewarning did not moderate the self-interest suggestions of advisors, but whether forewarning exists or not,the proportion of self-interest suggestions of high-power individuals is higher than that of low-power individuals.Based on the above research, the conclusions are as follows:(1)Because high-power people can control the income of others and rationalize their self-interest behavior, they are more likely to put forward self-interest suggestions than low-power people. That is,the advisors with a high sense of power are more inclined to put forward self-interest suggestions.(2)Whether under situational conditions(increasing extreme self-interest options)or forewarning conditions,high-power advisors are more likely to put forward self-interest suggestions than low-power advisors.
