| Due to the implementation of the new textbooks and the reform of the new college entrance examination,the emphasis is placed on the cultivation of students’ core literacy of English subject,which puts forward higher requirements and new challenges for high school students’ English learning.Students in the border areas where the author lives do not pay enough attention to English learning and have little interest in English learning,which greatly affects their English scores.Senior school students English learning interest has an important impact on the English learning achievements.Self-monitoring ability in English learning may play an important moderating role between the two.Therefore,understanding the influence of high school students’ English learning interest on English learning achievements and clarifying the regulating effect of self-monitoring ability in English learning can stimulate students’ interest in English learning and improve their English achievements to a certain extent.In this study,622 students from senior one and senior two of two high schools in Honghe,Yunnan Province were selected.The questionnaire of Interest in Learning English and the Questionnaire of Self-monitoring Ability of Senior High School English with good reliability and validity were used to conduct the survey and a case study of 4 high school students.The following research results were obtained:(1)The research status of senior high school students’ interest in English learning,self-monitoring ability in English learning and English achievements shows that:Research Status of English Learning Interest of Senior High School Students:students’ interest in English learning is above the middle level,with significant differences in school type,grade,gender,education level of father and educational level of mother.Research Status of Self-monitoring ability in English learning: Students’ selfmonitoring ability in English learning is at the middle level,with significant differences in school type,grade,residence registration,whether respondents are only child in their families or not,education level of father and educational level of mother.Research Status of English learning achievements of senior high school students:Students’ English learning achievement is at the middle level,with significant differences in school type,gender,nationality,residence registration,whether respondents are only child in their families or not,education level of father and educational level of mother.(2)Relationship research among English learning interest,self-monitoring ability in English learning and English achievements of Senior High School Students:(1)Relevant research shows: high school students’ English interest,self-monitoring ability and senior high school students’ English learning achievements showed significant correlation with each other.(2)Regression analysis shows: a.The regression analysis between high school students’ English interest and their English learning achievements: Regression analysis shows that senior high school students’ sense of pleasure,involvement,expanded cognition and application of English learning interest have positive predictive function for their English achievements.Senior high school students’ functional cognition of English learning interest have negative predictive function for the final English scores.b.The regression analysis between high school students’ English interest and their self-monitoring ability in English learning: Senior high school students’ sense of pleasure,application of English learning interest have positive predictive function for their self-monitoring ability in English learning.Senior high school students’ functional cognition,expanded cognition and involvement of English learning interest have negative predictive function for their self-monitoring ability in English learning.c.The regression analysis between high school students’ self-monitoring ability in English learning and their English learning achievements: Senior high school students’ selfmonitoring ability in English learning have positive predictive function for the total scores of English of two semesters.(3)Senior high school students’ self-monitoring ability in English learning plays a moderating role between students’ English learning interest and English achievements.Students’ English learning interest can effectively affect English learning achievements through self-monitoring ability in English learning.(3)The case study shows:(1)The research results support the conclusions of group research: Students who are only child in their families with good English foundation,urban residence and highly educated parents have higher English learning interest,higher self-monitoring ability in English learning and better English achievements.Additional conclusions of the case study to the group study: Students with complete families show higher English learning interest,higher self-monitoring ability in English learning and better English achievements.(2)Influential factors of each variable found in the study: a.Influencing factors of English learning interest:The internal causes are the students’ own English cognitive level and English learning attitude.External factors include the pressure of examination,teachers’ professional skills,teacher-student relationship,the school’s English learning atmosphere,parents’ support and so on.b.Influencing factors of self-monitoring ability in English learning:The internal causes are its own age characteristics,psychological characteristics and cognitive level.External factors include: teacher’s personal image,teaching level,teacher-student relationship,learning atmosphere,family environment,etc.c.Influencing factors of English learning achievements: Internal causes are English foundation and interest in English learning.External factors include teacher factors,family factors and school factors.(3)the personal coping measures in the case study: a.coping measures about senior high school students English learning interest are mainly to stimulate students’ English learning motivation,consolidate English foundation,establish self-confidence,establish good teacher-student relationship,communicate with parents and get encouragement and support from teachers and parents.b.coping measures about self-monitoring ability in English learning are mainly to improve students’ English cognitive level and the ability of applying English,be good at using English learning methods and strategies,summarize and improve their ability to solve problems.c.coping measures about English learning achievements are mainly to work hard to improve their English learning ability,and teachers should teach students according to their aptitude.At last,corresponding educational countermeasures and suggestions are proposed on the basis of the current situation and relationship study of senior high school student groups and case studies. |
