This thesis starts with the story of the characters in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel The Buried Giant,using the method of close reading of the text to explain the "anti-hero" image hidden in the background of the novel from various aspects.This paper aims to study the "antihero" in The Buried Giant,which consists of three parts: introduction,body and conclusion.Firstly,the introduction summarizes the current research status of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel The Buried Giant by domestic and foreign scholars in recent years,as well as the research direction and basic methods of this thesis.Secondly,the body consists of three chapters.The first chapter analyzes the "anti-hero" images presented by the main characters: Exo,Beatrice,Edwin,Gawain and Vesten,and it also makes an in-depth discussion on the text content.The second chapter mainly discusses the narrative strategy of the "anti-hero" image in the novel,including the change and diversity of the narrative person,as well as the cinematic expression of the narrative mode.The third chapter mainly discusses the realistic significance of the "anti-hero" character image in the novel,which reflects the awakening of individual resistance consciousness and the pursuit of moral belief.It also is a warning and reminder of the post-war social state,and further exerts a certain influence on English literature.Finally,the conclusion part summarizes the "antihero" image in The Buried Giant.In recent years,domestic researches on The Buried Giant have basically focused on thematic studies,multi-culture studies,theoretical intervention studies,narrative methods and work styles.However,there are few studies on the characters in the novel.This thesis starts from a close reading of the text and combines the related concept of "anti-hero" image with the war background in the novel.An in-depth study of the "anti-hero" image in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel The Buried Giant reveals the author’s profound understanding of history and war.
