Leonard Bernstein(1918-1990)can be called a monument in the modern music history of the United States. His passionate musical passion, intelligent and spiritual musical talent, and musical talent for learning from others are impressive. His achievements and charm have received great attention worldwide and have a farreaching impact. As an outstanding artistic master in American history who combines conductors, composers, pianists, music educators, and music theorists, his unique artistic character and ideals are widely spoken of by professional music circles and many music enthusiasts. In the late 1940 s,Bernstein believed that "there would be a ’great American symphony’ and that he could become the person who wrote it.".This symphony is his second symphony,"The Age of Anxiety." In such a cynical and anti heroic musical work, the humanistic connotation is extremely profound, while reflecting the overall emotional tone of the American people at that time. The techniques in this work are both imprinted with traditional styles and influenced by new art trends.Bernstein adhered to his own fusion of classical and popular styles, while drawing on the outstanding achievements of European and American composers, and ultimately achieved a perfect combination of diverse fusion styles. This article will take the second symphony "The Age of Anxiety",a representative work of his mature period of creation,as the research object.Starting from the perspective of multiple fusion of musical style and creative techniques,it will analyze the music technology, quoted poetry, philosophical thoughts, and humanistic implications in the work, and summarize Bernstein’s multiple fusion style in symphony creation. This article is divided into three chapters: The first chapter is an overview of Bernstein’s life and diverse musical activities, followed by an introduction to the creative background of this work. The second chapter uses music analysis methods to analyze the work from the whole to the details, focusing on the most prominent style and creative techniques in the work, and combining the interaction between Bernstein’s quotation of Oden’s poem of the same name, analyzing the intertextual relationship therein. The third chapter analyzes the aesthetic value and artistic impact of Bernstein’s symphonies, combining Bernstein’s inheritance of traditional American music style, his practice of unique artistic style, performance repercussions, and famous critics.
