A Report On The E-C Translation Of Taking The Heat (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The challenges of the intensifying global climate change and its impacts have caused tremendous influence on humans.To address climate change and improve ecological environment,China has set the goal of striving to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.In this context,it is of great significance to translate texts related to climate change.This report selects more than 16,000 words of the third and fourth chapter of Taking the Heat written by American meteorologist Bonnie Schneider as the source text of the translation practice.The excerpts focus on the hazards of heat of cities and the viruses intensified by climate change.In the process of translation,tools such as Google,Wikipedia,Terminology Online,Baidu,China Daily,Oxford Dictionary are used to solve difficulties in translation.This report takes Skopos Theory as the theoretical guidance and the three principles of Skopos Theory as the framework of case analysis.According to Skopos Theory,the report adopts domestication and free translation;According to Coherence Rule,the report employs division,reorganization,amplification and omission;According to Fidelity Rule,the report uses explication and literal translation.To ensure the fluency,fidelity and readability of the translation,the three rules of Skopos Theory are used all the time during the translation process.This report consists of five parts.The first part introduces the background of the report,the introduction to the source text,the significance of the report and the framework of the report.The second part introduces translation process description,which includes pre-translation,during-translation,after-translation and problems encountered.The third part introduces Skopos Theory,the three rule of Skopos Theory and their application to the translation practice.The fourth part elaborates case analysis based on the three rules.The fifth part is the summary of the translation practice,including findings,gains,difficulties and limitations.
