Over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up,people’s living standards and lifestyles have changed.Now,coffee has gradually entered the Chinese market and is loved by consumers who are no longer satisfied with daily product consumption but are interested in the coffee’s cultural connotation and historical development.As a result certain English materials related to coffee culture are collected,organized and translated into a trans-editing English-Chinese text---All about coffee,picturing its history and culture,coffee varieties,production areas,and the life quality that brought about.This report clarifies the significance of seven variation means for guiding trans-editing,to solve the editing and translation problems based on the translation variation theory.An analysis of cases shows that:(1)Four variation means of"adaptation,paraphrase,condensation,and combination" are used in the editing process,which can be used to extract the essential material,paraphrase the central idea,compress the length,and rearrange the word order of the original text,to clarify the theme logically.(2)Three variation means of "amplification,omission,and conversion" are applied to the translation process,to add information,omit repetitive contents,and adjust the syntax to conform to the habits of the target language.In this practice,a theoretical framework with seven variation means is developed to form a feasible analytical strategy for the whole process of trans-editing,providing a reference for its future practice and development.
