An Internship Report On Trans-editing Chinese Broadcast News Into English At Guangdong Radio And Television Station

The communication among the various sectors of the globe has made news,an important medium for information transmission,the pivotal tool for understanding and exchange among countries and regions.While getting the latest information about foreign countries from news,China also regards news as a way of enhancing international communication.The news media that mainly write English news have sprung up such as China Daily and Newsgd.com.This has facilitated foreigners who have settled down in China or those who want to understand China.The author conducted a five-month internship from March 15 to August 23,2019,at Guangdong Radio and Television Station(GRT)which is a provincial platform for international communication.During the internship,the author was mainly responsible for trans-editing daily broadcast news of Guangdong News Now.The news content of the program is mainly selected from the previous day's Chinese news.After the Chinese editor-in-chief confirms the topic,the author will complete the trans-editing work,and finally,the foreign editor will review,proofread and polish the scripts.This report is based on the author's internship,her job responsibility and the background information of GRT.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the author compares her scripts with the ones that are polished and broadcasted by the foreign editor.During the process of comparison,the author studies and analyzes the relevant principles and techniques of Chinese-English news trans-editing.Given the problems encountered in the trans-editing process such as news structure rearrangement,culture-loaded terms,words representing different images in two cultures and so on,the author proposes corresponding solutions including deletion,addition,and restructuring.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the task of trans-editing and explains the relevant background information and the meaning of the task.The second chapter is the theoretical framework.The third chapter focuseson the relevant process of trans-editing,including the pre-trans-editing preparation,the trans-editing practice and the post-trans-editing review and reflection.The fourth chapter is the example analysis of trans-editing news,the author combines the communicative translation theory with her practice,analyzes the function of the theory as a guiding role,exemplifies the application of specific translation methods and offers practical solutions to certain problems.The fifth chapter is a summary of the internship experience.Based on this internship experience,the author believes that news trans-editors should continuously promote their translation ability and news sensitivity,enhance their bilingual skills,fully understand the differences that exist in cultures and logical thinking patterns between the source language and the target language and responsibly complete each trans-editing scripts.
