Climate change,in addition to its intuitive impact on people’s lives in many aspects,has some sharp contradictions behind it that are becoming increasingly impossible to ignore.One of them is the contradiction between those who benefit from greenhouse gas emissions and contribute the most to climate change and those who suffer the most from but contribute the least to climate change.Based on the trans-editing of a series of climate-related reports,this report aims at raising public awareness of climate change and its influence and underlining topics and frameworks that highlight social issues through trans-editing to engage more people in climate actions faster.News reports from the Climate Justice Reporting Programme on the website Climate Home News are selected as source texts in this report,with the main contents focusing on communities and groups on the front lines of climate change-particularly women,youth,and indigenous peoples-and the impacts they face and their actions to address climate change.This report chooses the translation variation theory as the analytical basis to classify and analyze the problems encountered in the trans-editing process,drawing the following conclusions: during the process of international news trans-editing,information that may lead to misunderstandings due to cultural factors and linguistic differences must be verified in multiple ways;climate reports as solutions journalism should retain the contents as complete as possible to fully reproduce the plight faced by the regions and describe the measures and implementation process in detail,instead of making great changes and compression in content and length to highlight the core content in concise and condensed language;the focus of the trans-editing could be placed on the contents describing adaptations and response measures to climate change of the local community,with the length of the contents being appropriately increased to highlight their importance.While the trans-editing of climate reports provides some experience for subsequent practices on similar topics,it shifts the audience’s focus from the climate event itself to the solution to the event and promotes relevant public discussions to some extent.If there are more and more trans-editing activities of this kind of “solutions journalism”,it may be possible to transform this activity from a simple “editing + translation” to“solutions trans-editing”,becoming a new shift in the field of news trans-editing in the future.
