With the deepening of the research on the commentary of Journey to the West in the Qing Dynasty,the Hsi-yu Cheng-tao Shu has attracted much attention as the first commentary book of Journey to the West in the Qing Dynasty,and its research results have become increasingly rich.However,these results are relatively scattered and have not yet reached a complete and systematic study,especially the study of the commentaries in Hsi-yu Cheng-tao Shu is not indepth enough.Therefore,this determines the research value of on the ideology of commentaries in the bookThis study adopts the research method of literature,philosophy and religion,and uses statistical research methods to analyze the commentaries and deletions of the Journey to the West,and finds that the ideology of commentaries in the book mainly includes four aspects: first,the ideology of commentaries for the purpose of "cheng-tao",the book uses "borrowing material cheng-tao " as the logic,and discusses the close relationship between the "Tao" evidenced and the release of the mind;the second is the ideology of commentaries for the philosophy of the mind as the core,which is mainly expressed by highlighting the experiences of Sun Wukong,the core character of Journey to the West;the third is the ideology of commentaries for " people who learn ",and the book combines interesting comments and reasoning in the evaluation points,and makes corresponding adjustments in the text to meet the expectations and horizons of " people who learn ";the fourth is the ideology of commentaries based on the equality of Buddhism and Taoism,which is mainly manifested in the maintenance of the characters of Buddhism and Taoism in Journey to the West.Overall,these four ideas complement each other in terms of relationship,and are both interrelated and mutually influencing.The emergence of the above ideology was influenced by various factors: first,the religious factors during the the occasion of the Ming and Qing dynasties,which mainly included the theoretical claims of Taoist Neidan Studies and the universality of folk Buddhist beliefs;Secondly,the elements of the text of Journey to the West and its commentaries,which are mainly composed of the secular characteristics of the text of "Journey to the West" and the psychological thought of the commentary book of Journey to the West in the Ming Dynasty;Finally,there is the commentator factor of the Journey to the West,in which personal beliefs,health concepts,and profit motives play a key role in the emergence of ideology.In addition,the commentaries of the Journey to the West had a profound impact on later generations,such as providing reference for the commentary of the True Interpretation of the Journey to the West,changing the development direction of the commentary history of the Journey to the West,and influencing Timothy Lee’s translation of the Journey to the West.In short,the study on the ideology of commentaries in Hsi-yu Cheng-tao Shu integrate philosophical,religious and literary thoughts,which not only inherits the commentaries of Journey to the West in the Ming Dynasty,but also reflects the innovative consciousness of "cheng-tao",thus laying the foundation for the irreplaceable position of Hsi-yu Cheng-tao Shu in the history of Journey to the West commentary.
