The study of lexicographic archaeology,which originated from the textual research of dictionary editions,has formed a multi-perspective research model of dictionary history,lexical history and cultural history,it is suitable for the study of the pedigree of dictionaries,the textual research of the same vocabulary and the study of the history of concepts.Foreign source culture words are typical and representative words in some foreign culture,and their contact and integration with Chinese vocabulary is a complicated and long process of "Chinesization".With the help of dictionary archaeology,we can make a quantitative and empirical analysis of the lexical items,word forms,word meanings of the modern foreign source cultural words at the key time nodes according to the samples of the classical dictionaries,and then sort out the evolution laws and motives of the Chinesization.This essay extracts about 1,900 modern foreign source cultural words from the Modern Chinese Lexicon.According to the “Republic of China period--after the founding ceremony of the People’s Republic of China period--since the reform and opening up”,the three most representative dictionaries at these key points in time were selected: the Mandarin Dictionary,the Modern Chinese Dictionary 1st edition,and the Modern Chinese Dictionary 7th edition.We will examine the evolution and the laws of modern foreign source cultural words in the external genealogy of the modern Chinese dictionary of “Mandarin Dictionary & Modern Chinese Dictionary”,and the internal genealogy of the modern Chinese dictionary of “Modern Chinese Dictionary 1st edition & Modern Chinese Dictionary 7th edition”.This thesis includes introduction,four main chapters,postscript and conclusion.Introduction: it mainly introduces the research background,key concepts,literature review,research objects,research methods and significance of the selected topic.Chapter 1,The Lexical Development of Modern Foreign Source Cultural Words:firstly,the definition and classification criteria of modern foreign source cultural words are clarified;secondly,the foreign source cultural words in the Modern Chinese Lexicon are screened,and their types,number of synonyms and etymology are quantified and analysed;thirdly,the development of modern foreign source cultural words in the three dictionaries is investigated,and their development in the genealogy of modern Chinese dictionaries is summarised.Chapter 2,The Chinesization Evolution of the Morphological of Modern Foreign Source Cultural Words: firstly,an introduction to the method of morphological schema analysis of modern foreign source cultural words;secondly,a co-temporal description of the initial morphology to explore the initial Chinesization(transcription)of the morphology;thirdly,a chronological description of the morphological changes to explore the deep Chinesization(selection,addition,change,etc.)of the morphology.Chapter 3,The Chinesization Evolution of the Meanings of Modern Foreign Source Cultural Words: firstly,an introduction to the method of analysing the meaning factors of modern foreign source cultural words;secondly,the evolution of the internal meanings of foreign source cultural words from a microscopic perspective through a sequence of meaning factors;thirdly,the evolution of the external meanings of foreign source cultural words from a macroscopic perspective.Chapter 4,An empirical analysis of the evolution of modern exogenous cultural concepts-from lexicographic archaeology to intellectual archaeology: firstly,the relationship between lexical archaeology and intellectual archaeology is sorted out,and the value and methods of combining the two are discussed;secondly,the key words of "week","romance","science","revolution","culture" and "labour" are selected as the representative exogenous cultural concepts of modern times,and the dictionary archaeological research method is combined with the knowledge archaeological research method.This leads to an attempt to move towards an intellectual archaeology.Postscript and Conclusion: firstly,the Chineseization pattern of modern exogenous cultural words is sorted out from three perspectives;secondly,the Chineseization motives of lexical items,word forms,word meanings and cultural integration are analysed;finally,the prospective of future research.
