A Study Of Mongolian Translations Of Xi Han Yan Yi In China And Mongolia

Since its publication,the stories about the two Han Dynasties have been very popular among literati.Especially,the novel Romance of the Western Han Dynasty,with the war between Liu Bang and Xiang Yu for the world as the story line,portrays a lot of heroic characters and attracts countless historical lovers,including the Mongolian literati.The Romance of the Western Han Dynasty was spread to the Mongol settlements,translated several times and widely copied.Unfortunately,so far,the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected in domestic and foreign libraries has been in a state of indifference.This paper introduces three Mongolian versions of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected by the Library of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences and the National Library of Mongolia.Finally,this paper explores the translation characteristics of three Mongolian versions of Romance of the Western Han Dynasty by using the current translation methods.This article is composed of three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction mainly expounds the reason of the topic,literature review,research purpose,research significance and research methods.The first chapter firstly introduces the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected in the Mongolian National Library.Secondly,by comparing the Mongolian version of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty in the National Library with the Chinese version,we narrow the scope of investigation of its text,and further compare it with the remaining Chinese version,and confirm that it is translated from Jianxiao Pavilion Criticizing the Romance of the Eastern and Western Han Dynasties.Finally,it explores the translation strategies and finds that the translator has deleted a few imperial edicts,poems and narrative contents in the original Chinese text,and translated the remaining text by combining free translation,literal translation and hard translation.The second chapter firstly makes a comprehensive introduction to the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty in the library of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences.Secondly,through the detailed comparison of the Mongolian translation and the Chinese version of the text,the source of the text is defined as one of the Drawing of the East and West Han Yanwen and the Embroidery Image of the East and West Han Romance.Finally,based on the exploration of the translation characteristics of the Mongolian version,it is found that the translator selectively cut the poetry content in the Chinese original,and the rest of the content is translated by transliteration,literal translation and hard translation.Due to the translators’ weak Chinese skills and limited language mastery,mistrals occasionally appear in Mongolian translations.The third chapter introduces the characteristics of the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty in the library of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences.After reading and collating the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty with the Chinese versions collected by the Library of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences,the source range of the text is preliminarily defined between the Romance of the Eastern and Western Han Dynasty Drawing and the Romance of the Eastern and Western Han Dynasty Embroidery Image.In terms of translation strategy,the translator of the manuscript of Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected by the Library of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences not only cuts out a lot of content,but also reduces some narrative content.Therefore,compared with other Mongolian translations,this Mongolian translation is not a faithful translation.After further comparison of the three Mongolian translations,it is found that the Mongolian translation of Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected in the National Library of Mongolia has different sources from the other two Mongolian translations,and there are great differences in translation characteristics and language style.It is a separate Mongolian translation.The Mongolian printed version of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected by the Library of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences has the same source as the Mongolian translated copy of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty collected by the library of Inner Mongolia Academy of Social Sciences,but there are significant differences in translation characteristics.The preliminary judgment is that they are two different Mongolian translations by different translators.The conclusion summarizes the content of the whole text and further emphasizes the significance of studying the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty.Since the Western Han Dynasty stories came out,the research on them has been in a relatively cold state,and the translation research is almost blank.Therefore,this paper deals with the version arrangement and textual research of the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Han Dynasty,which has some characteristics in both China and Mongolia.The literature study of the Mongolian translation of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty is the basis of the multi-perspective study of the Romance of the Western Han Dynasty,and is also an indispensable part of the study of Mongolian translated literature.
