Kazuo Ishiguro,a Japanese-British writer,is a famous contemporary novelist who had attracted wide academic attention since the released of his first work.Since he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017,he had become famous overseas.Ishiguro’s "creative attitude without borders" makes his novels highlight the characteristics of some international novels, which is reflected in the theme and presents a multi-level rich implication, especially the immigration status has a decisive influence on his novel creation, which is manifested in Ishiguro’s tireless exploration of identity issues in his work.In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into three chapters and mainly uses the space theory,space-time theory and identity theory learned by the author.Chapter one, identity anxiety: the change of physical space and time: analyze the causes of Ishiguro’s characters from two aspects. In terms of space, they are far away from the sacred space in their hearts and cannot integrate into the current living environment. In terms of time, these people often fall from the cloud into the mire after many big events, and because they can not accept the realistic small self, they have to remember the seemingly lofty self in memory.Chapter 2,identity pursuit: the construction of social space: this chapter first explores the ubiquitous spatial representations that the characters of Ishiguro encounter in the process of trying to find their self-identity,and then analyzed the characters in the face of difficulties, two different space practice. It is found that due to the weakening of the spatial representation to the discourse power, the weak spatial practice power of the characters to deviate from the statute leads to the failure of identity pursuit.Chapter 3,identity reconstruction: the excavation of the "third space" : This chapter combines Homi Baba’s "third space" theory with the identity of a "borderless" writer advocated by Ishiguro to find a fit between the two.It is found that the characters of Ishiguro eventually reconcile with themselves and the "other" in the "third space" and find their own cultural identity. The last section analyzes the important significance and value of the "third space" constructed by Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels to the mixed cultural identity in the era of globalization. In conclusion,it summarizes the reasons for the identity dilemma of the characters described by Ishiguro, explores the difficult process of cultural identity, reiterthe importance of the "third space" to the characters, and emphasizes the practical value of building the "third space" and identifying with the mixed cultural identity. |
