As society develops, people pay more and more attention to education, especially to primary and secondary education and early childhood education. However, the number of studies on translation of texts selected for early childhood education is relatively small. Therefore, this paper selects The Infant System is reasonable. The text of this translation practice report is excerpted from Samuel Wilderspin’s work The Infant System. This book systematically introduces various aspects of the reasons for promoting early childhood education, educational contents, and educational methods, supplemented by a large number of examples including one’s own experience and what he has experienced around himself, and is rich in content and readable. At the same time, the translated material is an educational text with information and calling function and obvious communicative intention.Based on the practice of translating chapters 2 and 4 of the book from English to Chinese, the translator analyzes the translation theory and translation techniques based on the relevance theory proposed by Ernst-August Gutt.By discussing the problems found in the process of translation, this paper probes into the guiding significance of relevance theory in the translation of educational texts, and at the same time, the translator hopes to study Wildespin’s works through translation to provide people with different perspectives on early childhood education. In the specific translation practice, combined with the relevance theory, the author analyzes three aspects, namely, the manifestation of the implicit information, the adjustment of the discourse and the improvement of the readability of the translation.First, with the help of the explicit strategy, the author makes the implicit information in the text explicit in the translation, which makes the author’s intention clearer and the logic clearer and reduces the reader’s processing effort;in terms of discourse, the author achieves fluency in the translation by dealing with alternative words and adding related words to improve the reader’s cognitive context. Finally, the author uses parallel institutions and four-character idioms to adjust the sentence order to make the translation familiar to Chinese readers and enhance the readers’ interest in reading.Through the above three aspects of translation case analysis, the author hopes to summarize the translation strategy suitable for the translation practice, and accumulate experience for the future translation of related texts, and summarize the shortcomings.
