In recent years,the bond between China and international community has been further enforced,academic exchanges have been increasingly conducted,and the interdisciplinary collaboration has seen gradual improvements.As a result,numerous academic materials have been translated into Chinese for reference,and academic translation is playing an increasingly important role in cultural communications.The headmaster of the middle school where the translator worked as an intern asked her to provide him with some new foreign methods about school management,thus she selected three English educational articles from the website of ERIC and translated them into Chinese.Those articles were concerned with administration cases and research in some American middle schools.During the translating,Nord's text analysis theory was employed for guidance.After handing in the translated version to the headmaster,the translator accomplished this report.The translation project belongs to the field of academic translation.The source texts are categorized as referential text which involves indicating specific objects and phenomena,as well as delivering information for readers.First,the translator made the translation brief in accordance with the requirements of the client and the target language.Second,a source text analysis was performed through intratextual and extratextual factors.During the course of text analysis,the translator comprehended the source texts through aspects as communicative situation,text function,text composition,etc.,and consequently displayed those aspects in categories.Third,philological translation,belonging to documentary translation,was employed to the translation of English professional terms.The translator gave out those terms accurately and followed with notes in brackets to explain the certain meanings.In addition,referring to the equifunctional translation strategy that was included in the instrumental translation,the translator transformed the part of speech of the normalization phrases in the source texts.Besides,the translator delivered the English passive voice sentences in accordance with Chinese expression norms.Finally,homologous translation strategy of instrumental translation was applied to reproduce the text function of the source texts,refining the format norms in the target texts such as italics and punctuation marks,polishing the translation version into a logical,formal and standard one.Those procedures were employed to bring the client with a standardized,fluent and explicit translation version,and provide a reference for translation practice of the same genre.
