Zhang Yuzhao was one of the most important calligraphers in the late Qing Dynasty,whose experience and calligraphy creation aroused the interests of many researchers before and after his death.The influence of Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy spread across China and Japan,where his followers founded study groups and continued the impact.During the reform and opening up when China and Japan established friendly relationship,those followers continuously put forward the spread and acceptance of Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy.From the macroscopic perspective,this thesis studies the domestic and foreign calligraphers’ researches on Zhang Yuzhao and then further discusses different researches on Zhang Yuzhao between Chinese calligraphy and Japanese calligraphy during the twenty years of reform and opening up and mainly introduces the hierarchy,degree and difference of the spread and acceptance of Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy.This thesis is divided into five parts:First: introduction.We put emphasis on research motivation,researches at home and abroad and research methods.Chapter one: the background of communication about Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy between China and Japan.We start with brief introduction about Zhang Yuzhao in the late Qing Dynasty and his calligraphy.Thanks to studies on his life experience and the cause of his calligraphy style,we know that Miyajima Daihachi was one of the most important students of Zhang Yuzhao who spread the calligraphy of his tutor which left a great influence on Japanese calligraphy.Chapter two: the spread and acceptance of Zhang Yuzhao in China in the 1980 s and1990s.Because reform and opening up accelerated the communication between China and other countries,Japan,who is next to China,was urgent to establish profound relationship with our country so that Zhang Yuzhao and his calligraphy became an important carrier for communication between China and Japan.Not only does the thesis list researches that Japan discussed with China when Japan visited China,but list a series of researches that were enlightened by Japanese studies on Zhang Yuzhao.Therefore,Chinese calligraphers during the reform and opening up had more thorough and exact evaluation of Zhang yuzhao than that in the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.Chapter three: differences of the spread and acceptance of Zhang Yuzhao in China in the 1980 s and 1990 s.The difference can be divided into three aspects,including area,time and hierarchy.First,Beijing-Tianjin-Hubei versus Hubei.Second,1980-1990 s versus 1990-2000 s.Third,mainstream calligraphers ’ group versus non-mainstream calligraphers’ group.Chapter four: further thinking about three differences mentioned before.We would analyze the right position and meaning of Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy in the 1980 s and1990s and discuss the side yet profound effect of his calligraphy on Chinese calligraphy.In other words,due to Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy,Wei Bei became a hot trend.Conclusion: on the basis of summarizing the above chapters,we sum up the effect and value of Zhang Yuzhao and his calligraphy on China and Japan in the 1980 s and1990s.Our goal is to further recognize the time potion of Zhang Yuzhao’s calligraphy thoroughly and systematically.
