Artistic Transformation And Reconstruction Of Natural Images

Paula Winokur(1935-2018)is a famous American ceramic artist.Her ceramic creations are not static.From small ceramic vessels to large ceramic creations,from the shaping of rough pottery to the construction of unglazed porcelain,from inner introspection to transcendence of nature,from the interest in the personal world to the concern for human survival,she has constantly consciously innovated and made breakthroughs,especially in the process of artistic transformation and reconstruction of natural objects,she has consciously carried out personalized artistic creation.In her entire ceramic creation life,she has had an important influence not only in Philadelphia,the United States,but also in the field of ceramic art in the world.This paper takes Paula Winokur ’s ceramic works as the research object,and takes the artistic transformation and reconstruction of natural objects as the ideological perspective,and discusses the selection of its creative subject matter,material technology experiment,mud board molding technology,work form space and other issues.This thesis is divided into four parts: First,based on her unique thinking formed between natural images and artistic creation,it explores her image expression and symbolic language forms for land and glaciers with natural images as the theme.The second is to analyze how she constructs the visual tension of ceramic works and uses the unique material language to form the material characteristics of the works based on her personalized experiment and application in the preparation of porcelain clay materials.The third is to analyze how she formed the texture,texture,rhythm,shape and other modeling features of her ceramic works based on her exploration of composite processes such as the bonding,construction,splicing and molding of clay plates.The fourth is to analyze how she formed the flexible space of the form of her works through scene reconstruction and installation reorganization in the display way of her different ceramic works.This study is based on foreign interview data and relevant literature.It is mainly the oral history interview of Mija Riedel for the "Arts and Crafts and Decorative Arts Document Project" of the American Art Archive(2011),the interview of Fran Rudoff and Julie Burstein on Paula Winokur(2017),and the research literature of domestic scholars on Paula Winokur.This article pays special attention to the analysis of works as the starting point to explain its problems in terms of themes,materials,technology and exhibition.It is hoped that the research in this paper can provide a reference basis for contemporary ceramic art creation and promote the development of ceramic art creation.
